Celebrate Hispanic Heritage

Hispanic Heritage Month is set aside each year from Sept 15-Oct 15 as a time to recognize “the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture, and achievements for the United States.” In Oregon, Spanish is by far the second most spoken language at home after English.

Faithful Friends continues to work towards leaning into how we can better serve the community around us who come from Hispanic homes. That translates to having more mentors who speak Spanish, beginning conversation with Spanish speaking churches, and doing our best to make matches that will be encouraging to both mentors and mentees and their families.

In the summer of 2021 we interviewed a mentee who was enjoying some horseback riding at Echo Ranch in Damascus along with her mom and mentor.

We wanted to hear from her, in Spanish, as she thought of some things she enjoys about her mentor. In the background you can hear her mom helping her along and giving some suggestions. [click here to watch] and please subscribe while there!

Below, we hope you enjoy a few videos that speak to the Hispanic Population in Oregon, as well as give insight into the trajectory that our state will see in economic terms as more people from Hispanic households enter the work force, including those pursuing professional and business opportunities.

If you are interested in becoming a mentor to a child who speaks Spanish, or can help us move forward in our stated goals above, please visit our get involved page.
