Mentor Appreciation
We had a terrific time celebrating our Faithful Friend mentors for mentor appreciation month in January! Our mentors spent over 2000 hours, in total, mentoring kids in the Portland and Vancouver communities in 2024. That's something to celebrate!
One of our church partners, Bridgetown Church, provided a great space for us to honor our matches who were able to attend the event on January 11th. A light brunch was provided and mentors were able to spend time with each other in fellowship.
Drew Dyck, a Faithful Friends mentor and author of Just Show Up, spoke about his family’s mentoring match and his love for the mission of Faithful Friends. As Program Director I was excited to share with those in attendance Faithful Friends’ founder Duncan Campbell's “3 Bs”:
Be yourself
Be with the children
Be with each other.
One of the highlights was having our mentors read some anonymous quotes we gathered from some of the parents of the kids we serve:
“Both of my girls have mentors. Thank you for being such amazing mentors to my daughters. Since you came into their lives, the positive impact you’ve made has been incredible. Your guidance, support and care have truly enriched their growth and confidence. I’m deeply grateful for the difference you’ve made for my girls.”
"He always makes time for him and even spent his own birthday with my son. I cannot thank you enough for making this match. I hope more families receive mentors like my son has.”
A big thanks to Grace, Cia, Tim and Chon for making this event happen!
