Mentor Spotlight: Seth Horrigan

Many of our mentee kids don’t have much experience biking, swimming, building things, doing yard maintenance or having the kind of input which teaches some of these important life skills. Seth Horrigan recognizes this and takes his mentoring just as seriously as he takes his job, his fitness goals, his faith and his relationships: to the max! He’s an all-in kinda guy.

In 2018, Seth first met his mentee *Randall. Originally from Georgia, Seth works as a software engineer for C3.ai. As part of his job, he has lived in Italy and Spain but has been based in Portland, his “favorite city in the world”, since 2015. He first learned of Faithful Friends during a presentation at his church, The Well Community Church, where many other current and former mentors attend worship. He felt like it would be “a good way to use my time to bless others”, and a blessing he has been to his mentee and his family.

Seth knew he had ample time and abilities to share with others and was looking for ways to get involved serving in northeast Portland where he lives. As it would turn out, some years later he would end up marrying Christina who worked at Faithful Friends in a development role for some time after serving as a mentor with Friends of the Children.

Outside of work and mentoring, during the pandemic, Seth enjoys spending time trail running, bicycle riding (including endurance rides of 200 miles a day), reading, gardening, and playing strategy board games. He is also an avid foodie. Due to his passion for board games, *Randall is now a frequent player especially in cooperative games.

Seth also began volunteering recently with the Refugee Highway Partnership North America as operations coordinator for an upcoming international conference coming to Beaverton in October. Seth’s wife Christina gave birth 8 months ago to their first child and spends some of her time helping launch a non-profit coffee and tea shop called Jubilee Hall focused on providing job opportunities and training to refugees and immigrants in this area.
