Recognizing International Day of Education

As we continue Mentor Appreciation Month at Faithful Friends, we want to give a special shout out to our mentors who are educators.

Did you know that January 24 is set aside as International Day of Education?

We are truly blessed to live in a society where our children are privileged, required even, to go to school.

We hope for the day when this is the case in every corner of the globe where barriers to education continue to stifle growth and development of the child, and their respective nation.

Faithful Friends is indebted to many Portland-area elementary schools and staff members who carefully consider children under their care as they work with those children’s families to partner with us to identify qualified adults to come alongside children as mentoring friends.

This is a great example of the system working well!

Several of our mentors are also professional educators themselves, including Earl who teaches at Parkrose High School.

Earl has been teaching since 2004, first at Rowe Middle School then moving to Parkrose High School.

He grew up in Richmond VA and loves to spend time with friends. Earl also worked with Friends of the Children - Portland for five years before he was a teacher.

One of his favorite activities to do with his mentee is introducing him to new adventures.

Thank you mentors, teachers, tutors, homeschoolers, coaches and others who are impacting the world day by day, in mostly unseen ways, leading to big changes over the long-haul!

Are you interested in mentoring? Start here, or come to our Be a Rock fundraiser where you can meet some mentors and support our work.
