Welcome Karsyn our first intern

In previous posts this year, Faithful Friends has introduced you to two new staff members (Tim and Lynsey) as our organization grows. We have another first this year to share with you… our first intern!

Karsyn Disney started her internship with us last week and is already helping out in big ways! We asked her to share a bit about her past, present and future so you can get to know her better.

I grew up on the West Side, just outside of Portland. I am in my senior year at Portland State University, in their Child, Youth, and Family Studies program. This internship with Faithful Friends allows me to both meet school requirements, as well as live out my faith and gain experience working with children and families.

I had previously interned with the non-profit organization, Transitional Youth, and through that came upon communication with the program director at Faithful Friends. After communicating more and looking deeper into the organization, I loved what FF stands for and the work that they are doing. I feel honored to be a part of it for a brief time.

We also asked her to share about her passions and skills that she brings to the team…

After being in southeast Asia for three months, God really revealed to me my heart for working with vulnerable youth. I feel that my passion for coming alongside children wherever they’re at aligns perfectly with what I feel called to do. I also believe that although I am young and don’t have extensive experience in non-profit work, I hope to offer a new perspective or fresh ideas from my schooling.

As our intern, Karsyn will be helping with several projects that help promote Faithful Friends to potential partners, performing admin tasks involving current matches, and experiencing several touchpoints with people/families as part of the Faithful Friends community.

As an organization, we are at a stage of growth where we can use the extra help while providing opportunities for young people to experience diverse experiences at an active urban Christian non-profit.

As to what the future holds for Karsyn, she says:

I see myself working for a program or organization that invests in children and their families, allowing me to play a role in children knowing their value in the world.
