Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month

May is Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month and we are blessed to live in a place where we have a truly global heritage who have made the Portland area home, whether generations ago or more recently.

Japanese and Chinese immigrants came to Oregon in significant numbers to work in the lumber trade or help build the infrastructure that allowed for quicker import and export. Today, Asian-Americans and immigrants from Asia are Oregon’s fastest growing groups.

Several of our current and former mentors are Asian Americans (like Jackie in this picture) and they’ve gone above and beyond to mentor children from all walks of life (former staff too!). We also have several mentees whose families come from Asia, as well as some still on the waiting list for matches. We are actively seeking to partner with more Asian American churches, so get in touch if you know of some!

Be sure to check out this Travel Oregon link to learn more and find some fun things to do with your family, or with your mentee.
