Friendship: Impact & Transformation

Welcome to the final blog post of 2021 and the end of our month-long series focusing on friendship and some of the positive ingredients that contribute to making a friendship healthy and enjoyable.

We asked one of our “forever friends” mentors, Rachael, to think about some of the ways that her life as a mentor has made an IMPACT and caused TRANSFORMATION through her years of friendship with Biana since 2015:

“This relationship has had a BIG impact on my life. I have truly loved getting to know my mentee and her family. Now she is a part of our family!

Making friends with someone younger than me and learning how to care for a kid and be involved in her in an enriching way of life has stretched my heart and my faith. It's taught me so much, especially that there is room for more in my life.

Sometimes you think, ‘I can't do that’, ‘I don't have room for that or this person in my life’. But it's amazing how my mentee folded into my life so naturally over time.

I am so grateful I signed up all those years ago! [So] stay with it! Believe that you are making an impact and that showing up for this kid is making a difference in their lives even if you see no hard evidence. Have FUN!

Lastly, pray over your time with your mentee. Every time I go to pick her up I say a prayer to help me rely on God and his wisdom during our time together. It took the pressure off me to ‘be something special’ and allowed me to rest in Christ's timing and his presence.”

We celebrate Rachael and Biana and just LOVE the picture she sent us earlier this year of celebrating a big milestone with Biana and her family: her 15th coming-of-age birthday party!

We also thank you, our committed Faithful Friends family, for helping us meet and exceed our end-of-year fundraising goal of $30,000!
